Genting Hong Kong has celebrated the start of construction work on the second ship for its new Asian cruise line, Dream Cruises.
A traditional keel-laying ceremony was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, which has been contracted to build the new ship, World Dream.
Scheduled to launch in November 2017, World Dream will be a 151,000-gross tonne vessel with 21 decks and 1,700 guest rooms, able to accommodate 3,300 passengers. Seventy percent of the rooms will have private balconies and more than 100 are connecting, allowing the ship to cater for more groups and families.
Genting said that “special attention has been given to catering to the meetings and incentive market with spaces and services designed to accommodate group needs”.
Dream Cruises first ever ship, Genting Dream, entered service last year, operating cruises from Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
“After the successful debut of Genting Dream last November and the wonderful reception the ship has experienced from our guests, we are excited to start the construction process on World Dream,” said KT Lim, chairman & CEO of Genting Hong Kong.
“World Dream will push the bar even higher for the cruise industry through her quality construction and customised design, best-in-class service and diverse range of entertainment, dining, leisure and recreation options.”
These onboard amenities and activities will be tailored to the Asian market, including numerous F&B outlets, a large spa, more than 1,000m² of luxury shops, six water slides, and a Zouk night club.
Dream Cruises is the premium sister brand of Hong Kong’s Star Cruises.
