Genting Hong Kong has celebrated the start of construction of Dream Cruises’ second new ship, World Dream.
A steel-cutting ceremony was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany on 22 February to mark the occasion. The new vessel will be a luxury cruise ship tailored to the Asian market.
“This is a very proud moment for Dream Cruises,” said Lim Kok Thay, chairman of Genting Hong Kong. “Utilising our 23 years of cruise experience in Asia, World Dream, together with her sister ship Genting Dream, are luxury cruise ships designed from inception for the Chinese and Asian markets.
“With only 3,400 passengers, compared with over 4,000 for similar vessels, they will also be the most spacious and luxurious megaships in Asia Pacific,” he added.
Scheduled to start cruising in November 2017, World Dream will feature 35 restaurants and bars, including Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian options, plus a nightclub operated by Zouk, the Singaporean nightlife brand. It will also feature extensive Asian spa facilities, fitness areas, and yoga and tai chi classes.
For premium passengers, the ‘Dream Mansion’ area of the ship will feature 142 suites and private dining, entertainment and leisure facilities.
World Dream becomes Dream Cruises’ second vessel following Genting Dream, which is due to set sail from Guangzhou in November 2016 offering weekday and weekend voyages to Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Hainan Island. World Dream’s homeport and itineraries will be published towards the end of this year.
Dream Cruises will be the upscale sister brand to Star Cruises.
