Hilton and Accor have both signed deals to expand their portfolios in Brazil.
The former will add a 298-room new-build hotel in Rio de Janeiro in June 2014. It is currently being constructed under the Hilton Barra name and will open ahead of the city holding Olympic Games events in 2016.
“Hilton Worldwide currently has the largest Latin America development pipeline in our history, and we are thrilled to add Rio de Janeiro to this growing list,” said Danny Hughes, senior vice president, Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America at Hilton Worldwide.
Meanwhile, Accor has signed 90 contracts in Brazil to add 13, 819 rooms to the country. Its hotels are all set to open by the games with around 24 hotels planned to be opened each year.
It comes as the hotel chain announced the acquisition of Grupo Posadas for US$275 million which will add 15 hotels and 14 pipeline properties.
Accor will also open 10 ibis branded hotels in Brazil in 2012, as well as the Mercure Salvador Boulevard.
