Denise Von Wald has been named as Tourism Australia’s new regional general manager for the UK & Northern Europe, based in London. Von Wald joins Tourism Australia from Education Adelaide where she led the organisation for seven years as chief executive.

 

Trevor Davis has been appointed as new business development director at Barrhead Travel. Davis will join the company on 17 June from The Co-operative Travel where he was director of specialist business when it merged with Thomas Cook, overseeing development of The Freedom Travel Group, Co-op PTA and Thomas Cook’s Affinity business.

 

Lindsey Thorpe has been appointed senior MICE executive for UK & Ireland at the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Thorpe has already been part of the team for two years and before that he worked for DNC at Wembley Stadium as events coordinator.

 

Richard H. Anderson, Delta Air Lines’ CEO, has been named as the new chairman of IATA. The US national succeeds Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce, whose one-year term has expired. Anderson’s appointment is effective immediately will last for one year. He was named Delta CEO in 2007, having after more than two decades in the industry with Continental and Northwest Airlines.

 

Chris McGuinness has been appointed chairman of Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association (ACSHA). McGuinness is general manager of the Aberdeen Marriott and succeeds Steph Gow of Thistle Aberdeen Altens. It comes as four new Aberdeen Airport hotels due to open and two in the city centre.

 

Tim Waggott has been promoted to acting chief executive at the Port of Dover. Waggott, who has been director of finance and commercial since 2007 at the port, will now drive the port’s business.

 

Vincent O’Gorman has been named as the new general manager of The Westbury Hotel, Dublin. O’Gorman was formally general manager of The Kensington Hotel, London.

 

Ross Grieve has joined Seaham Hall has general manager. Grieve has been placed in charge of turning around the hotel after its release by Von Essen Hotels and acquisition by Seasons Holidays. He has left the Chester Grosvenor Hotel to take up the role.
