Accor has officially taken over the running of two properties in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The company, which was already Australia’s largest hotel group, has now become NT’s biggest accommodation provider, after it took the reins at the Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru and Cooinda Lodge at Yellow Water Billabong.
Operated by Kakadu Tourism, the newly-rebranded Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel and Kakadu Lodge Cooinda managed by Accor have increased Accor’s portfolio in state to nine hotels.
“Kakadu National Park is one of Australia’s key tourism assets and has long maintained the interest of international visitors. At the same time, the domestic market has enjoyed the wide range of experiential product in the park,” said Simon McGrath, chief operating officer of Accor Pacific.
“Accor will use the full breadth of its network in the Asia Pacific to attract international markets, particularly the emerging markets of China and India, as well as capitalising on the strength of Accor in European markets,” he added.
The 110-room Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is located at Jabiru, 2.5 hours drive southeast of Darwin. Designed in the shape of a crocodile, the hotel is built around a large swimming pool and features conference space for up to 250 delegates.
Kakadu Cooinda Lodge is located next to the Yellow Water Billabong and forms part of a tourism complex that also that includes a lodge, camp site and range of activities.
