AirAsia India has signed a new agreement with Amadeus that will allow travel agents to book its fares via the GDS.

The new Chennai-based low-cost carrier will now provide Amadeus-connected travel agencies across the world with access to its schedules and fares. AirAsia India has also signed up for Amadeus’ light ticketing technology, allowing travel agents to view and compare its fares in the same screen as full-service carriers.

“In the fiercely competitive Indian aviation industry, Amadeus will help set us apart from the competition,” said Mittu Chandilya, CEO of AirAsia India. “With their unmatched global network of travel agencies and industry expertise, we are confident that Amadeus will be the ideal partner to support our ambitious growth targets.”

Hazem Hussein, Amadeus Asia Pacific’s executive vice president of airline commercial, added; “India is a booming market for low-cost carriers. We are seeing more travellers who want a low cost option via their travel agency when travelling in India. AirAsia is a long term Amadeus partner and we are thrilled to see the newest venture, AirAsia India joining the partnership.”

The AirAsia group signed its first ever GDS deal earlier this year, when it connected to Amadeus. This marked a major shift in strategy for the LCC, which had previously focused on direct bookings.
