China Eastern Airlines launched its first direct flights between Shanghai and Chicago on Friday (18 March 2016).

The new trans-Pacific service will now operate three times a week using a new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Flights depart Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport at 1140 and arrive at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport at 1240. The return services then leave the US city at 1450 and arrive back in Shanghai at 1910 the next day. The flight time is approximately 14-15 hours.

“We are thrilled to now offer travellers our direct connectivity between Chicago and Shanghai,” said Dong Bo, China Eastern’s chief marketing officer. “We… are proud to be the only Chinese airline to offer this direct route.”

The B777 China Eastern will deploy on the Chicago route can seat 316 passengers – six in first class, 52 in business class and 258 in economy. The premium cabins feature flat-bed seats and all passengers are offered Wi-Fi services.

Chicago becomes China Eastern’s fifth destination in the US, following Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
