Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has been recognised as a pioneer in the global halal travel market by Salam Standard, the innovative online hotel reference tool dedicated to Muslim travellers.
The company was named a winner of the Best Hotel Group category in the inaugural Salam Standard awards programme, which acknowledges hotel groups, destinations, airports and events that excel in the Muslim-friendly travel arena.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts was one of eight Salam Standard winners selected by a panel of hand-picked judges with halal travel market expertise.
“All of our winners stand out as pioneers in the global halal travel market, offering products and services that cater to the specific faith-based needs of Muslim travellers,” said Salam Standard founder Faeez Fadhlillah.
“We applaud the efforts of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, which like Salam Standard, strives to provide Muslims with Muslim-friendly travel options that make them feel at home.”
Nominees for the Salam Standard awards were judged by a panel of Muslim travel experts against a number of criteria, such as the availability and range of Muslim services and facilities provided, as well as the promotion of the halal travel concept locally and internationally.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts was recognised for offering halal-friendly facilities and services at most of its hotels around the globe, demonstrating the company “takes the needs of its guests seriously and goes the extra mile to ensure their wellbeing”, said Fadhlillah.
Other Salam Standard award winners included Dubai in the Best Destination category as well as The World Halal Travel Summit & Exhibition (WHTS), the ninaugural edition of which took place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from October 19-21, 2015.
Launched in October, Salam Standard is an online reference tool that provides information on “Muslim-friendly” amenities and services available at hotels and resorts around the globe.
More than 20,000 properties have become part of this online reference tool, including several hotels operated by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.
In May this year at Arabian Travel Market (ATM), Dubai, Fadhlillah launched Salam Standard sister company Tripfez, a new travel review and booking site for Muslim travellers featuring a portfolio of 200,000 hotels and resorts globally, including the 20,000-plus properties with Muslim specific amenities by Salam Standard.
“Salam Standard, Tripfez, and our new awards programme recognise the growing influence of Muslim travellers – a market that is growing fast,” said Fadhlillah.
“They spent US$142 billion on travel in 2014, according to Thomson Reuters, and this is on track to rise to $233 billion by 2020, accounting for 25% of total global travel expenditure. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is stealing a march on the competition by getting on board with this trend.”
