Air France-KLM has chosen to install a new fast in-flight Wi-Fi system on its long-haul aircraft.
The European group has selected Gogo’s 2Ku broadband technology, which claims to deliver peak speeds of 70+ mbps to the aircraft – making it similar to using broadband on the ground.
The new system will be gradually installed on 124 aircraft in Air France-KLM’s long-haul fleet, including Boeing 777s and Airbus A330s. The airlines also have the option of installing the technology on additional aircraft in the future.
“We are delighted to bring Gogo’s industry leading 2Ku technology to one of the largest airlines in the world,” said Michael Small, Gogo’s president and CEO. “2Ku delivers a ground-like performance to aircraft flying around the world today, including the ability to stream video.
“The technology will get even better over time and will provide passengers with a superior connectivity experience now and in the future,” he added.
The first aircraft is expected to be in service end of next year, with the bulk of the installations taking place in 2018 and 2019.
