Airport assistance services company OmniServ has announced it has boosted its fleet of vehicles at Heathrow with the addition of seven Bulmor SideBull Ambulifts.

Designed to help ensure that multiple People with Reduced Mobility (PRM) passengers are able to board and disembark swiftly and easily. The SideBull Ambulifts are described as ‘cabin units mounted on trucks’, which can pick multiple passengers up from the tarmac before being raised to connect with aircraft doors.

The Ambulifts used ‘side loading technology’ where the vehicles are able to raise and lower their cabins while on the move, without the need for stabilisers – and is able to operate in wind speeds above 50 knots, meaning adverse weather conditions are less likely to disrupt service. This, coupled with the automated nature of the vehicle and safety tech, such as proximity laser guidance, make the SideBull Ambulifts an extremely efficient and secure transfer for PRMS. OmniServ’s Andrew Marshall, head of airport services for Heathrow, said: “OmniServ is committed to delivering the best possible experience for all passengers. The Bulmor SideBull Ambulifts is an innovative solution that allows us to transfer people onto and off aircraft with dignity and care.”

The news comes following another recent story unveiling OmniServ’s purchase of 100 ProMove Sling devices and highlights the company’s dedication to its remit of providing travellers passing through Heathrow with exceptional service assistance through cutting edge tech and tip-top customer interaction.

Heathrow’s vision is to make every journey better, for every single passenger – Jonathan Cohen, Heathrow Airport

The company (established in 2004), a subsidiary of US-based facility management company ABM Industries, is not just responsible for passengers but also cabin servicing, hygiene and cleaning within the airport, ramp handling, as well as aviation security.

Jonathan Coen, customer relations and service director at Heathrow said: “Heathrow’s vision is to make every journey better, for every single passenger. We need to do more when it comes to our Special Assistance service and we hope investments in equipment like these Ambulifts will make a real difference to travel experience and comfort of our passengers when travelling through our airport and help us in providing a more accessible, welcoming Heathrow.”

Four of the seven vehicles have already begun operation at the airport, with the next three set to enter operation over the next few months – two of which are the only A380 compatible SideBulls in the UK. And, this latest purchase means that OmniServ operates the largest UK fleet of SideBulls – with Heathrow and Stansted having the largest fleets of SideBulls of any UK airports.
