Adventure travel operator Explore has seen a 6% year-on-year rise in its July bookings despite the month not even being out.

The company has also seen rises in family holidays for August departures as well as a huge 45% rise in European cycling tours. This is despite the hot weather, which is said to have slowed bookings down considerably.

“We’ve seen demand increase right across the board throughout the summer, from hiking and cycling to multi-activity holidays, demonstrating that more and more customers – and increasingly families – are now looking for an active break when choosing their holiday,” said managing director of Explore, Ashley Toft.

“Given the exceptional weather in the UK this month, with temperatures hotter than in many parts of Europe, and summer holiday bookings for some operators actually decreasing this month – it’s interesting that so many people are still opting for adventure breaks.

“By offering tours to suit all ages, interests and abilities, Explore aims to make adventure travel accessible to as many customers as possible – and these latest figures certainly indicate this is having a positive effect.”
