American Airlines will rebrand its regional subsidiary, American Eagle.
From spring 2014, the carrier will be renamed ‘Envoy’, as part of the ongoing efforts to restructure and revamp the group following its recent exit from bankruptcy protection, and its merger with US Airways.
American said the change from American Eagle to Envoy would give the airline its own identity, reducing confusion between American Airlines and American Eagle.
All 10 carriers currently providing regional services for American and US Airways networks will eventually fly under the American Eagle brand.
“Our people and our company… deserve a name that is all our own,” said Pedro Fabregas, American Eagle’s president & CEO. “By taking on the Envoy name, we can better differentiate ourselves from the competition and better market ourselves. This is important for both our people and our company as we further expand our ground handling business.”
The airline said the name ‘Envoy’ was chosen because it is “reflective of what the company does for the airlines it works with – serving as their ambassador and a representative to their customers”.
American Eagle currently operates 1,700 daily flights to more than 150 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean using a fleet of Bombardier and Embraer regional jets.
