American equips cabin crew with tablets
American Airlines’ flight attendants will begin using the new Samsung Galaxy Note tablet later this year.
The airline will roll out the devices to all of its 17,000 flight attendants throughout this year and next, using the new devices to store information about customers such as name, seat number and loyalty programme status, as well as meal and beverage preferences and any special assistance required.
Gate staff will also be able to provide passengers with information about flight status and weather.
“This is a huge step towards a new, modern American Airlines, as our tablet programme is the first of its kind in the airline industry, where our flight attendants will have the most up-to-date customer information in the palms of their hands, allowing them to better serve our customers from boarding to deplaning,” said Lauri Curtis, American’s Vice President of Flight Service. “By giving a device to all of our active flight attendants we are better enabling our people to deliver an exceptional customer experience.”
American announced earlier this month that it plans to issue tablets to pilots, to store flight information electronically.
