ANA has unveiled plans to launch flights to Sydney, using its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
Pending government approval, Japanese airline will launch daily flights between Sydney and Tokyo Haneda Airport on 11 December 2015.
The night flights will depart Haneda at 2210, arriving in Australia’s largest city at 0935. The return services will then leave Sydney Airport at 2130, arriving back in Tokyo at 0505.
All flights will be operated using ANA’s newest aircraft type, the 215-seat B787-9 Dreamliner. This will provide passengers with the airline’s latest cabin products, including 48 flat-bed seats in business class, 21 seats in premium economy and 146 in economy.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our footprint in Oceania and offering our passengers additional options and convenient connections through Haneda Airport,” said Osamu Shinobe, president & CEO of ANA. “Our most comfortable seating and the optimised in-cabin humidity and air pressure of Boeing’s 787-9 Dreamliner should be especially good news for overnight travellers.”
ANA is focusing on the expansion of its international network as part of a new long-term strategy, through which it is aiming to increase revenue from international flights by 50% over the next 10 years. The airline launched direct flights to Houston last month, and will commence services to Kuala Lumpur and Brussels in September and October 2015 respectively.
Both Qantas and ANA’s main rival, JAL, currently operates daily flights between Sydney and Tokyo Narita Airport, while Qantas is also planning launching a new daily Sydney-Haneda flight this summer.
