The brand, which Archipelago describes as offering “modern accommodations, topped off with rustic charm and a residential feel”, currently operates just one hotel, in the Kuta area of Bali. But 2014 is expected to mark a year of rapid growth for Harper, with new hotels launching in a series of emerging destinations across Indonesia.

“We are thrilled with the response from the Harper brand following the successful story of Harper Kuta – our first Harper hotel that opened last November in Bali. It was the only brand new hotel to open in the area that was an instant hit, with 84 % occupancy in January despite Kuta bursting with an oversupply of hotel rooms,” said Norbert Vas, Archipelago’s vice president of sales & marketing.

“With this success we are moving forward and gearing up to open another eight Harper hotels throughout the archipelago.”
The expansion will include new hotels in eight cities across three Indonesian islands – Java, Borneo and Sulawesi.

In Java, the Harper Puncak Gate Bogor will be the brand’s largest hotel with 300 rooms, while Harper Pasteur Bandung will have 176 rooms and Harper Mangkubumi Yogyakarta will offer 155 rooms. The brand will also enter the Indonesian capital, with the launch of the 180-room Harper Simatupang Jakarta, and second biggest city, with the 184-room Harper Surabaya.

In Kalimantan (Borneo), Archipelago will open the 150-room Harper Banjarmasin and 175-room Harper Samarinda, and finally on Sulawesi, the Harper Perintis Makassar will feature 159 rooms.

All Harper properties will have facilities including swimming pools and coffee shops, and they will also feature strong MICE components. Combined, the eight new hotels will offer more than 50 meeting rooms.

The year of expansion will start with the opening of the Harper Mangkubumi Yogyakarta in June 2014.
