A survey of 2,000 UK adults conducted by OnePoll on behalf of VoucherCodes.co.uk has found that 83 per cent of respondents plan to opt for a holiday at home this summer, a rise of 17 per cent on 2014.
The lure of British shores, country pubs and cosmopolitan cities means the UK is now the number one holiday destination for Brits, beating the nearest contender, Europe, by 16 per cent.
The trend for staycations is certainly on the rise, with top British destinations enjoying an increase in visitors over recent years – a combined 51 per cent in the top five hot spots since 2010. Perennial favourite Cornwall was the favourite UK getaway destination for the fifth year running. The destination has seen a 16 per cent rise in UK tourists since 2010 and is also set to welcome 14 per cent more holidaymakers this year than in 2014.
Those surveyed also showed their love of a city break, with the South West hotspot closely followed by London in the list of most popular staycation destinations. British beauty spots including the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales took third and fourth place respectively, whilst the south coast seaside town of Bournemouth completed the top five.

Despite spending less than they would abroad, British holidaymakers are set to splash over £56 billion on enjoying the summer in the UK, spending an average of £1,352 on accommodation, travel, visiting attractions, food and holiday luxuries. A welcome boon for the retail and leisure industries, Brits will be parting with an average of £250 on food and drink, £206 on accommodation, and £101 on visiting attractions. Despite eschewing the tropics, Brits won’t be scrimping on their holiday style, parting with an average of £181.61 on clothes and accessories, a further £97.04 on health and beauty treats, and £110 on spa treatments.
