China Southern Airlines has launched its first ever non-stop flights to Africa.
The Guangzhou-based carrier commenced direct services to Kenya’s capital Nairobi on 5 August 2015, and will now operate the route three times a week.
Flights will depart Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 0045, arriving at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 0700. The return service will leave the Kenyan capital at 1335 before arriving back in Guangzhou at 0550 the next day.
China Southern will operate the route using a 258-seat Airbus A330 aircraft.
The Nairobi launch marks the start of a series of new routes connecting China and Africa. Later this month, Air China will launch direct flights from Beijing to Johannesburg, and then on 26 October it will commence services to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
