Dubai Duty Free sales touch US$1.8 bn

Dubai Duty Free (DDF) recently announced its sales figures for 2013 which touched AED6.65 billion (US$1.8 billion), representing an 11.4% increase over the previous year. As per records, sales in December were recorded at AED700 million (US$192 mn).
On the anniversary of DDF, the company recorded 215,000 transactions while sales reached an incredible AED111.88 mn (US$30.65 mn) in the 24-hour period, which was 40% higher than the former anniversary day in 2012.
The operation recorded a staggering 25,973,819 sales transactions in 2013, which average at 71,161 sales transactions per day.
From a category point of view, Perfumes retained its position with an increase of 16% year-on-year. Sales of Perfumes reached AED1.06 bn (US$289 mn), an increase of over AED148 mn (US$41 mn) over the previous year. Perfumes now contribute 16% towards total sales at Dubai Duty Free sales.
Moreover, sales in DDF Departures rose by 11% while Arrivals sales have shown a 13% increase over last year. Terminal 2, which completed its renovation in December, recorded a 22% increase in sales.
