European cities and resorts have dominated a new ‘best value’ list for UK tourists by the Post Office Travel Money.
Prague has overtaken Bali as the best value destination for Brits, with a tally of essentials totalling £35.29 in the Czech capital.
Bali remains the best long-haul resort but prices for items had risen 21% compared to last year, putting the Indonesian resort fifth in the table.
Instead the Algarve, Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach and Spain’s Costa Del Sol came in as more affordable. The second most affordable long-haul destination was Cape Town, South Africa.
The largest increase was seen in Turkey where prices in Marmaris are up 13%.
The costs in the barometer were based on the total price of items such as a cup of coffee, suncream and three course evening meal for two including a bottle of wine.
However the Post Office’s Andrew Brown warned that exchange rates are unpredictable. The US dollar was at a five year-high exchange rate against the pound a few months ago but is now trading almost 7% fewer than last January. The pound is currently worth 6% more against the euro than a year ago.
