IAG considers Vueling bid
The International Airlines Group (IAG), which comprises British Airways and Iberia, has confirmed that it is considering making a bid for Spanish low-cost carrier, Vueling.
Following media speculation, IAG confirmed in a brief statement today (8 November 2012) that it is weighing up a complete takeover of the carrier.
“IAG can confirm that it is considering making an offer for 100% of the share capital of Vueling,” the statement read. It added however, that “no decision has yet been reached”.
The potential price of the bid was not disclosed, nor were any other terms. Spanish national carrier and IAG member Iberia currently owns a 45.85% stake in Barcelona-based Vueling.
Vueling was launched in 2004 and has since expanded its reach across Europe, operating a fleet of almost 60 aircraft from bases in Spain, France and Italy.
