India and Dubai have agreed to enhance the bilateral seat entitlements between the two countries.
Close to 11,000 seats per week will be added between Indian cities and Dubai. Currently, the bilateral seat entitlements between India and Dubai are at 54,200 seats per week. “The increase will occur in three phases. In the first phase which will be this summer schedule (April to October 2014), there will be an addition of 5,500 seats per week; 3,300 seats in the winter schedule (October 2014-March 2015) followed with 2,200 more seats in the summer schedule of 2015,”a source from the Ministry of Civil Aviation informed the Economic Times.
The increase would mean that Emirates will be able to increase its flight and also deploy the A380 aircraft without any reduction in its current flights to India. The change in bilateral air services agreement will be a positive move for the Indian carriers.
A total of 8.4 million passengers used the Dubai Airport in 2013, which was the highest from any country and nearly 14.3% of the total traffic handled at the Dubai airport.
Last year, services between India and Abu Dhabi were enhanced with increase seat allotments of 50,000 seats each week, up from 13,700 seats. The increase in seats allotment between India-Abu Dhabi route was also planned in a phased manner spread over three years.
