Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the state-run airport operator, could increase its full-year passenger target.
The Bernama news agency reported the group’s managing director, Badlisham Ghazali, as saying that rising passenger demand for flights to Malaysia from other countries in the Asia Pacific region is driving the growth.
No new full-year target was confirmed, but Ghazali said he expects traffic to be higher than the current forecast of 85.8 million passengers.
“In addition to benefitting from the current cheaper ringgit, this is the best time for foreigners to visit Malaysia,” Ghazali told reporters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). “We will still monitor the situation. If the trend continues for the next couple of months we will revise our target before year-end.”
Japan’s ANA will start flying to KLIA in November 2015 and Ghazali revealed that MAHB is also in talks with several Chinese carriers. “We’re quite encouraged by their responses,” he said.
MAHB operates six international and 16 domestic airports in Malaysia.
