Set to open in April 2015, the BreakFree on Cashel Christchurch was formerly operated as an All Seasons hotel, but was forced to close after the February 2011 earthquake.

Now fully reconstructed, the midscale hotel will offer 263 rooms and an expanded ground floor restaurant. Other facilities include a lounge, internet kiosk, laundry, conference room for 80 people and two boardroom-style meeting spaces.

“A total investment of over NZ$30 million (US$23m) has been committed to the project, which will also see the hotel reach a Grade A seismic rating, incorporate a new exterior façade and provide an active and expanded ground floor opening onto Cashel Street,” said Brett Russell, group managing director of the hotel’s owner, Russell Property. “This will undoubtedly revive what arguably the City’s most popular hotel.”

BreakFree on Cashel will become Mantra’s second property in the Christchurch area, joining Peppers Clearwater Resort. It also takes the company’s total New Zealand portfolio to 11 properties, including three under the BreakFree brand.
