Australia’s Mantra Group has fully-opened its first hotel in Asia, the Mantra Nusa Dua Bali.

The company announced today that following a soft-opening earlier this year, it has now launched all 172 rooms at the new-build property, plus all leisure facilities and food and beverage outlets.

“The resort offers a great experience to guests who know and love the Mantra style and service,” said Mantra Group’s CEO, Bob East. “We are proud to see the Mantra name in Bali, combining a brand and a destination already popular with the Australian and New Zealand market.”

Located in the Nusa Dua area of the Indonesian island, the upscale resort offers a spa, fitness club, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with pool bar, and a children’s pool.

F&B outlets include the Rasa restaurant, Orchid Lounge and Splash poolside cafe, while for the events market there is a 400-pax capacity ballroom, eight meeting rooms and purpose-built wedding venue with ocean views.

Mantra now plans to develop more properties in Bali, under all three of its brands – budget BreakFree, upscale Mantra and luxury Peppers. Negotiations are underway for a further two Mantras and one BreakFree property, while three more properties are in the pipeline, including Asia’s first Peppers resort.

“We see Indonesia as a very attractive growth destination – it is short-haul with consistent and inexpensive air access, has an attractive exchange rate and is popular with Australian and New Zealand leisure visitors,” said East. “There is a rapidly growing Indonesian middle class with domestic tourism a huge growth market and both private and public organisations are focused on infrastructure investment into transport, accommodation and event venues.

“With this in mind we have a mandate to expand our network and leverage our systems, strong brands and expertise in hotels and apartment hotels,” he added.

The expansion into Asia follows Mantra’s development of a new Peppers resort in Fiji, which is due to start construction in 2014. The company currently operates more than 50 properties across Australia and New Zealand.
