Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has expanded its codeshare agreement with oneworld alliance partner, American Airlines.

The two airlines announced plans to join forces on 136 weekly flights in March 2013, offering MAS passengers the chance to connect to five US gateways – Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Miami – via its European stations.

Now a second phase of the partnership will see MAS place its ‘MH’ flight code on American’s flights to the US cities of Atlanta, Boston, Washington DC, Houston, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas and San Diego, from the five US gateways.

In return, American will now place its ‘AA’ code on the Malaysian national carrier’s flights to Singapore and Bangkok, via Kuala Lumpur.

“This codeshare will provide an excellent opportunity to expand our US network without having to mount our own flights to the various cities there. It also gives the US customers more options to choose from to travel to Malaysia, Singapore and Bangkok and is also expected to greatly contribute towards increased tourist arrivals into Malaysia,” said MAS’ Group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.

“As one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the Asia Pacific region, we are confident that more tourists from other parts of the US will use this codeshare and visit Malaysia.”

All the new codeshare flights are now available for sale.
