MAS signs US codeshare
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has signed a new codeshare agreement American Airlines that will give it access to five cities in the US.
Effective this week, the arrangement enables MAS customers to book joint itineraries to Chicago, Dallas, New York, Miami and Raleigh through via one of the Malaysian national carrier’s three European hubs – London, Paris and Frankfurt.
MAS suspended flights to New York several years ago, but the new codeshare service enables it to return to the Big Apple and four other US hubs by connecting with American Airlines’ trans-Atlantic flights.
“We are excited to partner American Airlines in this codeshare. It provides an excellent opportunity to expand our US network without having to mount our own flights to the various cities there. It also gives the US customers more options to choose from to travel to Malaysia and is also expected to greatly contribute towards increased tourist arrivals into Malaysia,” said MAS’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
“As one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the Asia Pacific region, we are confident that more tourists from other parts of the US will use this code share and visit Malaysia. We are also very proud to offer our signature product, the A380 for the great travel experience of our American customers. For example, if they choose to fly from New York to London or Paris and then Kuala Lumpur, they will experience the comfort of our big bird,” he added.
In addition to the New York flights, passengers from Malaysia are offered twice daily connections to and from Dallas, 12 weekly services to Miami, 16 weekly connections Chicago and twice weekly flights to Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina.
The codeshare deal follows MAS joining American in the oneworld alliance earlier this year.
