Ritz-Carlton has unveiled plans to launch a luxury all-villa resort within one of China’s earliest UNESCO World Heritage sites, Jiuzhaigou Valley.
Located in Sichuan province, on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, the property will overlook multi-level waterfalls, lakes and forests. Jiuzhaigou Valley which translates as the “Valley of the Nine Village Forts”, covers 72,000 hectares and was inscribed on UNESCO’s list in 1992.
“We are delighted to be fulfilling the desires of our sophisticated international travellers by opening exceptional properties in new locations,” said Hervé Humler, Ritz-Carlton’s president & chief operating officer. “Working closely with our partners, we will be curating a Jiuzhaigou experience that honours its UNESCO heritage.”
Set at 2,300 metres above sea-level, The Ritz-Carlton Jiuzhaigou will feature just 87 villas, all with panoramic views of the valley and Min Mountains. The three restaurants and lounges will feature stone-paved terraces with fire pits for the cool winter evenings, while other facilities will include a “mountain spa”, kids’ club and various activity centres.
Guests will also be able to explore local landmarks such as the Pearl Shoal Waterfalls, which feature a 310-metre curtain of water, ancient woodlands, a real life “swan lake” famed for visiting birdlife, and more than 100 lakes.
Scheduled to open in 2017, Ritz-Carlton Jiuzhaigou will join the eight existing hotels in the brand’s mainland Chinese portfolio. Ritz-Carlton is also planning to launch two more properties in Haikou and Nanjing in future.
