SilkAir will take delivery of its first new Boeing 737 aircraft next month.
The Singapore-based regional carrier placed an order with Boeing in 2012 for 54 new B737s – 23 B737-800s and 31 B737 MAX 8s – to revamp its single-aisle fleet.
The first of these is expected to arrive at Changi Airport in early February 2014 – one of eight new aircraft to be delivered to SilkAir this year.
“Our new Boeing fleet will enable us to put the passenger at the centre of our focus, with the objective to deliver a higher level of quality and experience,” said SilkAir’s chief executive, Laslie Thng.
“Moving forward, we will continue to improve and adapt, catering to the evolving needs of travellers in Asia. For instance, to appeal to a more well-travelled audience looking for adventure, we will focus on expanding our network to unique destinations especially in key markets such as China, India and Indonesia,” he added.
Following its arrival, the first new B737-800 is scheduled to enter service from 20 February, flying to destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket and Medan. The second new aircraft will operate to Siem Reap, Danang, Davao, Cebu and Kochi from 17 March.
The new B737s will gradually replace SilkAir’s existing fleet of 24 Airbus A319s and A320s.
