The overnight curfew imposed following the recent coup in Thailand has now been lifted in 22 provinces.
The country’s National Council for Peace & Order (NCPO) last night agreed to lift the midnight to 4am curfew in 17 provinces, and a further 15 districts in three provinces. This takes the total number of areas where no curfew is now in place to 22 full provinces and seven districts in four other provinces.
Key tourist areas where the curfew has been lifted include the northern provinces of Mae Hong Son and Sukhothai, the western province of Kanchanaburi, and southern coastal regions of Trang and Satun, and the eastern seaboard provinces of Trat, Rayong and Chanthaburi.
The key cities of Bangkok and Chiang Mai however, remain subject to the night-time restrictions.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) issued a statement welcoming the move, saying it proves “the council’s commitment to promote Thailand’s tourism”.
