Thailand’s military government has eased the nationwide curfew imposed after last week’s coup.
The previous curfew hours of 10pm to 5am have now been altered to midnight to 4am, effective Wednesday 28 May 2014.
The move follows calls from Thailand’s tourism community that a less stringent curfew would reduce the impact on local operators.
The Bangkok Post reported Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn, president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), as saying that a midnight curfew would be “better and more convenient for foreign tourists who want to go out and party”.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reiterated that all major tourist facilities are still operating as usual, including airports, hotels, shopping malls and convention centres.
Passengers arriving and departing during the curfew can still travel to the airport as usual, but overnight bus and rail services will not be operating during the curfew hours.
