Thailand is the most preferred outbound destination for Indian travellers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revealed that 917,832 Indians travellers visited Thailand last year as compared to 791,185 visitors in 2010, making it the number one destination for Indians with a growth rate of 16%. So far this year Thailand received 210,722 Indian visitors during the first quarter, registering an increase of 1.6% over the same period in 2011.
Commenting on the growth, Sethaphan Buddhani, Director of Tourism for TAT Mumbai said; “We have achieved this consistent growth due to our result-oriented marketing strategies that are matched with performance indicators. We realised the need to tap niche segments as the Indian markets have matured over a period of time. As a result, we now tap niche segments such as golf, luxury holidays, weddings, medical and Bollywood tourism.”
