Thailand has celebrated the arrival of its 15 millionth visitor of 2015.
Rozita Binti Namyan, Malaysian national, arrived at Hat Yai International Airport on 5 July, where she was presented with two economy-class return air tickets to anywhere in Thailand plus a five-night accommodation voucher.
According to latest figures from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism & Sports, the country welcomed a total of 14.01 million between 1 January and 21 June 2015, an increase of 27.4% compared to the same period last year. 2014’s figures were impacted however, by the political unrest in Bangkok.
“The Thai tourism industry is making a strong comeback this year, thanks to the confidence and support of all our visitors,” said Juthaporn Rerngronasa, acting governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
“Rewarding the millionth visitor is just a small way of showing our thanks and letting the world know that we value all our guests. We are looking forward to welcoming many more visitors, both first-time and repeaters, to enjoy a vacation in Thailand.”
The country expects to receive 28.8 million visitors in 2015.
