Puducherry Governor meets Tourism Minister

The Governor of Pondicherry, Virendra Kataria met the Union Tourism Minister, Dr K Chiranjeevi to expedite the releases of Central financial assistance to various tourism infrastructure projects in Puducherry. A review meeting was held with the officials of Ministry of Tourism regarding all the tourism projects relating to Puducherry in the 11th Five Year Plan.

An action plan was worked out for the speedy implementation of various projects.

Hilton opens in Pune

Hilton Worldwide has opened its new hotel – DoubleTree by Hilton in Pune, Chinchwad. The 115-room hotel will house a 24-hour Precor fitness centre, outdoor pool, spa, range of dining venues, the company stated.

Commenting on the development, global head of DoubleTree by Hilton, John Greenleaf said, “With its prime location in Pune’s industrial belt, DoubleTree by Hilton Pune-Chinchwad is a perfect fit for our portfolio.” The hotel, which is the first international brand at Pimpri Chinchwad, is located near the key business and manufacturers hub.

Chennai’s international terminal to open this week

Chennai’s international airport terminal is likely to open on 7 August.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to open the terminal after officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) made an inspection last week.

“Nine airlines will operate seven flights from the new terminal on the first day. Some shops have been set up for passengers inside the building,” Airport Director, H S Suresh told the Times of India.

Sources said the CISF would be ready with the additional personnel by 6 August. AAI had asked the CISF and customs for additional personnel as the new international terminal and existing terminal would be operated simultaneously for a few months.

Jet Airways has introduced a special price for domestic routes. Last weekend, the airline put on sale a whopping seven lakh domestic travel seats with fares starting INR1,777. The sale will last till this Friday and will be for travel from the day after. Jet is offering fares in three slabs – INR 1,777 for short slabs, INR2,777 for medium and INR3,777 for long domestic sectors.
