Uber could be kicked out of Taiwan this month, Taiwan News reports.
The country’s Investment Commission ruled this week that ride-sharing app misrepresented its business, calling itself an IT company rather than a transport service.
As a result, Emile Chang, Executive Secretary at the Commission, said that Uber could be ordered to leave the country. He added however, that that this was the “worst scenario”. A final decision is expected to be made by 11 August.
Uber was banned in Taiwan last year, following complaints from local taxi companies. A crackdown on illegal ride-sharing was launched by police last month.
