While UK businesses come to terms with what Brexit means for them, outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com, which provides access to 2,000 bookable camping and glamping sites in the UK and Europe, has seen international bookings and searches double since last Thursday’s announcement and says the fall in the pound is good for British tourism.

Pitchup.com’s founder, Dan Yates, commented: “We’ve taken 132% more international bookings on our site over the four days (Friday to Monday) since the announcement, with international website traffic up by a staggering 123%. This compares to 74% growth in bookings and 58% annual growth in traffic beforehand.”

He added: “Our sector is likely to benefit from Brexit more than other sectors of the tourism industry, as we appeal to savvy, budget conscious travellers who are always looking for ways to make their holiday spend go further.

“Foreign visitors made a record 13.9m holiday visits to the UK in 2015 – 9.8m of which were from Europe – and the fall in the pound will attract more overseas visitors to the UK. It’s also good news for domestic tourism as more Brits are likely to take longer or multiple holidays within the UK. At this stage Brits’ booking habits to Europe appear to be unaffected.”
