Following the recent launch of its first ever long-haul flights to Amsterdam, China’s Xiamen Airlines has confirmed that it will make its Australian debut in Sydney later this year.
The Chinese carrier will launch the first ever scheduled flights to Australia from both Fuzhou and Xiamen, two major cities in southeast China’s Fujian province.
Services from Fuzhou will commence on 29 November 2015, running three times a week. Flights will depart Fuzhou every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 2010, and arrive at Sydney Airport at 0830 the next day. The return service will then take-off at 1000 every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, getting back to Fuzhou at 1620.
Then on 5 December, Xiamen Airlines will launch twice weekly flights from Xiamen to Sydney. Services will depart every Wednesday and Saturday at 2030, arriving in Sydney at 0830 the next day. The return flight will then take off at 1000 every Thursday and Sunday, getting back to Xiamen at 1600.
Xiamen Airlines will operate both routes using its new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, which can carry 237 passengers in three cabins with four suites in first class, 18 flat-bed seats in business class and 215 seats in economy.
Late last month Xiamen Airlines, which is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, embarked on its first ever long-haul flights from Xiamen to Amsterdam, also using its new Dreamliners. And the company plans to continue this international growth in 2016 with the launch of its first ever flights to North America.
Xiamen Airlines currently operates a fleet of five Dreamliners, and has outstanding orders for a further five, including four larger B787-9s.
