SIA’s Indian airline expected to launch in mid-2014

The new Indian airline planned by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tata Sons is expected to launch flights by the middle
of next year, the carrier’s chairman has said.
Prasad Menon told reporters on Friday that he hoped to “be able to launch by May-June [2014]”. Earlier last week, India’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board approved the new venture. And while SIA and Tata still need to clear some regulatory hurdles prior to launch, including obtaining an Air Operator’s Certificate, India’s Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh was reported saying that he “[doesn’t] see any problems”.
The SIA venture will be a new full-service carrier based in Delhi. Tata is also planning to launch a new Chennai-based low-cost carrier in partnership with AirAsia.
