Hilton has opened its first hotel in Chengdu, marking start of a period of significant expansion for the company in the fast-growing Chinese city.
The new 395-room Hilton Chengdu is located in the new central business district of Chengdu, close to the Century City Convention Center. And it will be joined in the coming years by 10 more Hilton-branded hotels in the Sichuan capital, in an unprecedented period of citywide growth.
“Chengdu is a rapidly developing city with tremendous growth potential,” said Bruce McKenzie, Hilton’s senior vice president of operations for Greater China & Mongolia, Hilton Worldwide.
“In addition to having a rich cultural heritage and scenic views, Chengdu is a major transportation hub and a gateway to inland areas including the Yangtze River Delta region. The capital of Sichuan province is also a growing MICE destination and we are pleased that Hilton Chengdu has joined our portfolio as our 66th hotel in Greater China.”
The new Hilton Chengdu is set in an eye-catching hotel building that will feature an exterior light show developed by the company responsible for the light displays on the Eiffel Tower.
Facilities will include three restaurants and two lounges, a spa, 24-hour fitness centre and a rooftop swimming pool on the 37th floor. There is also Chess & Card Room on the 8th floor. The property will also provide extensive conference and banqueting space, including 14 meeting rooms and Chengdu’s first “drive-in ballroom”.
Following the launch of the Hilton Chengdu, the company is planning to open a further 10 hotels in the city under five of its brands. These will include two more Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties, five Hilton Garden Inns and the city’s first Conrad, DoubleTree and Waldorf Astoria hotels.
