Avalon Waterways has launched another suite ship, the second in a week bringing the total to 12 in an overall European fleet of 16 modern ships.
Avalon Passion was christened on 13 April in the Austrian town of Linz with Jill Ellis, head coach of the US Women’s National Soccer Team acting as godmother.
After the christening ceremony, the 443-foot, 166-passenger Avalon Passion will sail its inaugural cruise on the 10 day ‘Balkan Discovery’ cruise departing from Budapest on 22 April before spending its first season sailing a number of Avalon’s popular and longer cruise itineraries on the River Danube including The Legendary Danube, The Blue Danube Discovery, European Splendour and Grand Danube Cruise.
Since the launch of the first Avalon Suite Ship, ‘Avalon Panorama’ in 2011 which represented a new concept in river cruise vessel design, demand has grown significantly and with 12 in the European fleet currently, guests can enjoy the Avalon river cruise experience on a wide choice of ships and itineraries. Each Ship features two decks of all-suite accommodation and suites sized at 200 square feet with wall-to-wall panoramic windows, large bathrooms and clever bed positioning for the best views of the passing landscape.
Avalon Waterways also features two Suite Ships in Asia, the Avalon Myanmar and Avalon Siem Reap sailing the rivers Irrawaddy and Mekong respectively. Both Suite Ships have a passenger capacity of 36 and staterooms are sized at a spacious 245 square feet (larger than the European Avalon Suite Ships) featuring the same wall-to-wall panoramic window design which opens to transform the living space into a large open air balcony.
