Stockholm will become the second Scandinavian city in Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) route network next year, when the national carrier introduces a new service to Sweden’s capital via Moscow.
The new Singapore-Stockholm route will be launched on 30 May 2017 and will be operated using SIA’s new Airbus A350 aircraft, with a stop in Russia’s capital city in both directions. The new flights will complement SIA’s existing service to Copenhagen.
SIA currently operates four weekly flights to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, but the frequency will increase to five per week with the launch of the extended service to Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport.
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will codeshare on the new services, and the route will be added to the existing joint venture between SIA and SAS, which was initially formed in 2013.
“We have been evaluating services to Stockholm for several years and are pleased that we can now introduce services to the Swedish capital using the newest aircraft in our fleet, the Airbus A350-900. It is encouraging that our partnership with Scandinavian Airlines is going from strength to strength,” said SIA’s CEO, Goh Choon Phong. “With the new services to Stockholm complementing existing flights to Copenhagen, customers will soon have the choice of two convenient gateways to explore the… Nordic countries.”
“We look forward to develop our collaboration further with Singapore Airlines and thereby be able to offer our customers a new route to Singapore from Stockholm, and also from there onwards into Asia, Australia and New Zealand,” said SAS CEO, Rickard Gustafson.
The outbound flights will depart Singapore at 0020 and arrive in Stockholm at 0825, including a one hour 15 minute stop in Moscow. The return service then leaves the Swedish capital at 1025 and gets back into Singapore at 0615 the next day, including a one-and-a-half-hour wait in Moscow.
Passengers will be offered the choice of business, premium economy and economy class seats on the new A350, and SIA’s latest cabin products.
The move to serve Stockholm via Moscow follows SIA’s recent re-routing of its Singapore-Houston service via Manchester, rather than via the Russian capital.
