Following the recent launch of the first flights between Shenzhen and Sydney, Air China has applied for permission to launch services from the southern Chinese city to Melbourne.

In January 2016, China Southern Airlines commenced three weekly flights on the Shenzhen-Sydney, marking the first Australian link for the Pearl River Delta hub.

And Air China, has now submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to launch the Shenzhen-Melbourne route. If approved, it intends to operate the flights daily from October 2016, using an Airbus A330 aircraft.

Air China’s launched its first ever long-haul flights from Shenzhen’s Bao’an International Airport in February this year, when it commenced services to Los Angeles, via Beijing.

Both Air China and China Southern are planning to ramp up their long-haul operations from Shenzhen in the next five years.
