Passengers onboard China Airlines’ (CAL) long-haul flights will soon be able to enjoy a new range of in-flight entertainment and connectivity.
The Taiwanese carrier has selected the Panasonic eX3 system to be fitted to every seat on its new fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Scheduled to be rolled out from September 2014, the IFE system will feature an 18-inch high-resolution screen to allow passengers to watch movies and TV shows, play games, read e-magazines and shop for duty-free products.
The airline will also offer in-flight Wi-Fi aboard the new aircraft, on a two-tier basis. All passengers will be able to access local information and weather on their smartphones and laptops without charge, while full internet connectivity will be available in one-, three- or 24-hour paid packages, with prices starting from TW$300 (US$10).
The new IFE system will also include a new instant messaging system called ‘Seat Chat’, which allows passengers to connect with friends or family members in different seats.
CAL has ordered 10 B777-300ERs, with the first three expected to be delivered in 2014. These new aircraft will replace the Taipei-based airline’s existing fleet of Airbus A340s.
