Dubai International traffic surges at 6.5 mn

Recent statistics revealed by Dubai Airports stated that Dubai International in April welcomed more than 6.5 million passengers.
Passenger numbers rose 5.7% to 6,510,653 up from 6,159,634 in April 2014. During the first four months of 2014, Dubai International welcomed 26,116,980 passengers, compared to 24,521,454 passengers during the same period last year, resulting in an increase of 6.5%.
Eastern Europe achieved highest growth rate with routes to the region registering a surge of 74.6%. Other regions that registered high growth rates include North America at 17.9%, Indian subcontinent at 12.6% while Russian and the CIS routes witnessed a dip at 27.6%.
In terms of passenger numbers, Indian subcontinent outperformed the rest of the regions with 167,652 passengers, followed by GCC with 92,069 passengers and Western Europe at 65,175.
Total aircraft movements reached 33,279 in April 2014, climbing 6.5% from 31,234 movements recorded in April last year. In first four months, total aircraft movements rose six per cent to 133,493 movements from 125,928 in 2014. The average number of passengers per movement was 206.2 during April down by 3.3% from April 2014, while year-to-date (April) average was 206.4 passengers, down by two per cent from the same period last year.
Dubai Airports launch ‘Hang out at DXB’ campaign
In a bid to promote the summers in Dubai, Dubai Airports recently rolled out a nationwide campaign – Hang out at DXB. The campaign looks to encourage travellers to arrive earlier to Dubai and enjoy a full range of airport products and services.
Dubai Airports has partnered with Arabian Radio Network (ARN) for the campaign. As per statistics, average number of departing passengers is expected to double.
The busiest days 25-26 June 25 will witness more than 75,000 passengers depart from the airport. With this in mind, the airport operator is encouraging passengers to undertake online check-in and register for flight updates.
