Germany will increase its tourism marketing activities in Southeast Asia next year, as it bid to attract more travellers from several high-growth markets.

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has confirmed plan to enhance its sales and marketing activities in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, all of which are seeing strong growth rates.

“In 2015 about two million trips to Europe were made from these four important high-growth markets, [and] nearly 300,000 of these were to Germany,” said to Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB.

“By 2030 the volume of overnight stays from the Asian source markets in which we haven’t had a presence so far could more than double, from 1.4 million to 3.3 million. We aim to take advantage of these significant opportunities for growth.”

Germany is among the top four European destinations for all four Southeast Asian nations. The country attracted 65,000 visitors from Singapore last year, as well as 95,000 from Indonesia, 62,000 from Malaysia and 71,000 from Thailand in 2015.
