Two giant pandas touched down in Singapore yesterday (6 September), following a flight from Chengdu.
Kai Kai and Jia Jia arrived on a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 cargo plane on Thursday and will be housed at a new enclosure at Singapore’s River Safari attraction. The 1,500m² panda complex is the largest in Southeast Asia and features waterfalls, shallow pools and climbing structures designed to replicate the pandas’ natural habitat in southwest China’s Sichuan province.
The pandas will complete a month-long quarantine before being released into their new home. Kai Kai and Jia Jia will then go on public display in the new Yangtze Zone of the River Safari from December this year, and will stay for 10 years.
Singapore is the ninth country to receive giant pandas from China since 1994.
