The development of Myanmar’s hotel sector took a major step forward today, with the opening of the first internationally-branded property on Ngapali Beach – one of the country’s main resort areas.

The Hilton Ngapali Resort & Spa opened its doors on 5 January 2015, becoming the second Hilton in Myanmar, following the Hilton Nay Pyi Taw.

Set on the country’s picturesque west coast, overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the Hilton Ngapali is located just 2km from Thandwe Airport, which has regular connections to Yangon. As well as a long stretch of sandy beach, travellers will be able to visit local fishing villages and offshore islands, which offer diving and snorkelling opportunities.

“Our expanding presence in Myanmar… provides more choices for travellers and elevates hospitality standards and services in this increasingly important and growing region,” said Rob Palleschi, Hilton’s global head of full service brands.  “Opening on the heels of Hilton Nay Pyi Taw, this hotel also provides new opportunities for team members and builds upon the pioneering spirit of our founder Conrad Hilton.”

Hilton Ngapali Resort & Spa offers 51 rooms and villas, all fitted with 40-inch flatscreen TVs and satellite channels, Wi-Fi, private balconies or terraces, and separate baths and rain showers. The entry-level deluxe rooms have private whirlpools while the top-end ocean view villa suites include private pools.

Facilities at the resort include a restaurant, bar, spa, 24-hour fitness centre, and a large outdoor infinity-edged swimming pool overlooking the sea, with three whirlpools and a separate children’s area.

“The opening of Hilton Ngapali Resort & Spa marks a significant milestone for Hilton Worldwide in Myanmar; it underlines our unwavering commitment to contribute to the travel and tourism industry in the country,” said William Costley, Hilton’s vice president of operations for Southeast Asia.

“Throughout our history in Southeast Asia, Hilton Worldwide has served as a leader in innovation and a pioneer in developing full service hospitality by providing quality services that resonates with the local market. Guests to Hilton Ngapali Resort & Spa can look forward to enjoying the best of Hilton hospitality enriched with the warm culture of this major tourist destination.”

Following the launch of the Ngapali Beach and Nay Pyi Taw properties, Hilton now plans to add more hotels in Myanmar over the next few years, including locations in Yangon, Bagan, Inle Lake and Mandalay.
