Singapore Airlines (SIA) will increase its services between Singapore and Copenhagen, having received final regulatory approval for a joint venture with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).

SIA currently operates three weekly flights to the Danish capital, but subject to airport slot availability this will increase to five weekly flights from 31 March 2013. SAS will codeshare on these flights.

The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) has cleared the joint venture between SIA and SAS, which will also encompass the coordination of flight schedules and joint sales activities.

“We are very pleased to announce an increase in frequency to Copenhagen now that regulatory approvals have been obtained for our wide-ranging partnership with SAS. We look forward to further building on our ties with SAS to provide more travel choices for our customers,” said SIA’s Executive Vice President Commercial, Mak Swee Wah.

SIA and SAS have been codesharing since December 2010 on SAS-operated flights from Copenhagen to Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm, and on SIA’s flights between Copenhagen and Singapore, plus selected flights between Singapore and Bangkok.
