SIA, Turkish Airlines seal major new codeshare

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Turkish Airlines have agreed to join forces on multiple new routes covering five continents.
The two Star Alliance partners have been codesharing between Singapore and Istanbul since 2009. But under the new agreement, SIA will increase the frequency of its flights on the route from four to six times per week. These will operate alongside Turkish Airlines’ daily Istanbul-Singapore services.
In addition, SIA will be able to place its ‘SQ’ code on Turkish Airlines’ services from Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport to destinations including Sofia, Luxembourg, Tallinn and Budapest in Europe, Accra, Dakar, Abidjan and Addis Ababa in Africa, Bahrain in the Middle East, and Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Houston in the US, along with 10 domestic destinations within Turkey.
In return, Turkish will be able to place its ‘TK’ code on SIA’s flights from Changi Airport to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Auckland, Christchurch, Brunei and Hanoi.
The expanded codeshare agreement is expected to take effect from 1 May 2014, while SIA’s two extra weekly flights to Istanbul will commence on 26 May.
