British Airways has unveiled new seats and cabin interiors for its short-haul aircraft.
Fitting of the new design will start this week on the first of 95 Airbus which are used for domestic and European routes from Heathrow and Gatwick.
The new look has been inspired by those used on its A380 and Boeing 787s with charcoal grey leather seats that allow for additions in the economy cabin.
The back of seats have a tablet-holder that also acts as magazine storage and there is a four-way moveable headrest.
The new Club Europe will keep its 2:2 configuration with the middle seat free will have a central table with space for food and drinks so the main table is kept free to use.
Plans are also on the way to bring a 4G broadband network on domestic flights that passengers would expect to find on the ground.
Re-designs are also underway for the airline’s lounges at Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Keith Williams, British Airways’ executive chairman, said: “The short-haul landscape has changed enormously in recent years. To stay competitive and keep offering customers choice, great fares and great service, we are giving our cabins a radical makeover. There will be a new look, but the traditional British Airways’ comfort, elegance and value will remain.”
