British Airways has launched a series of unusual new in-flight entertainment options for passengers.
Under the title ‘Slow TV’, the airline is now screening a series of long, slow and decidedly run-of-the-mill events. These include the filming of a seven-hour train journey to Oslo, footage of people knitting, walks in the park and bird feeding.
Explaining the strange programming choices, BA’s in-flight entertainment manager, Richard D’Cruze, compared it to in-flight maps, and said that some people find the wallpaper-style footage “mesmerising”.
“There’s definitely a hypnotic, calming and entertaining quality to ‘Slow TV’ that is perfect for in-flight entertainment,” he said.
But long-haul passengers who don’t fancy watching a seven hours of knitting footage needn’t worry; BA will still offer its usual selection of IFE content, including 130 movies, 650 TV shows, 550 audio albums and 225 radio shows.
